My boss has threaten to fire myself and everyone else if we do not put the company magnets on our personal cars. Can he do that?
(I don’t want to put t on my car because it has flown off in the past and he threaten to make me pay for it)

Also he makes us have the company greeting on our personal phones. Can he make us put his greeting on our personal phones that he pays NOTHING for?

no

You boss is a jerk, plain and simple. He can fire you for not complying with his absurd demands, but I’m sure you can sue him over it. Try this: if he threatens to fire you again, you threaten to sue him. If he still fires you, drag him to court. You’ll win.

No they cant make you do all that. Only if they’re paying for the car or phone.

No, definitely not.
It is you own personal vehicle and your own decision.
Your boss has no right to fire you because you are not willing to put a magnet or a ringtone on your car/phone.

Only when you’re within the scope of your duties, during work hours and sometimes afterward depending on the job. For example a delivery driver for the magnet (work hours only), or insurance agent for the phone greeting (may be reasonable outside of work hours, if clients have access to your phone). You can otherwise politely decline to do his advertising for him.

Well, we all know the infamous PIZZA BOY driver’s put the lit signs on their car roofs…the question would be then:

Boss: Are you ‘willing’ to put my pizza sign on your car if I hire you? Are you willing to use your own car and gas to deliver pizzas? How about a magnet that will look tacky and let people know where you work all day long?….etc..

Employee: NO!

Boss: Then, I guess you can get a better job elsewhere. Have a great day!

Sorry, that little play was just exploding out of my head…lolol

Seriously, they can ask this of you, and decide wether or not to hire you based on your answers … but, only in the hours that you are working for them. And as far as answering your phone HIS way, tell him this: You will put his message on your phone ifff he advertises a message on his phone for your new business endevor! Hey, fair is fair, right? See if he agrees, if not, tell him to pay for a new phone or at least half your phone bill each month and you’ll keep it on there during business hours only. COMPROMISE! It will show him that you know how to do business, and you’ll find he’ll be more respectful to a challenger type personality!!

GOOD LUCK…sounds like a jerky boss though!

If it is part of your job description, yes.

If it isn’t, then no.

Repeat after me: unless you have a contract, you can be fired for ANY REASON WHATSOEVER.

the only exceptions are race, religion, etc.

So the answer is yes, he can.
