27yo guy. really need a sense of direction, goals that will motivate me, dreams to work towards.
i just can’t seem to decide what i want to achieve in life. i know that once i decide what i actually want i will be focused, motivated and purposeful but at the moment i feel like a ship in the ocean without charts or a compass.
i’m not keen on settling down and starting a family for a long while yet. i’m not particularly motivated by earning huge amounts of money so a life dedicated to that is out.
i really just want to live a life that i can find purposeful and rewarding but not sure how.
any suggestions?

Maybe you could sit down with a pen and some paper for a bit and work on your goals. Maybe make 2 columns, one for things you enjoy and are good at, the other for things you don’t enjoy and aren’t so good at. Using those lists you could work out which jobs/hobbies would be best for you, then find out about how to get that job and about clubs in your area that cater for those interests.

Then you could set yourself a few long-term goals (eg where you want to be in a few year’s time) with short-term goals as well (short-term goals help keep you focused on your long-term goals and they help you stay motivated because you’ve always got something to aim for in the very near future)

Good luck!

what do you do for a living? what is your line of work? what hobbies do you have? where do your interests and passion lay? do you want to travel before you "settle down"? are there any skills you wish you had but don’t have now? are you competitive? Are you sporty? What do you do in your leisure time?

actually i never heard of anyone without any dreams , even you while you say that you don`t have any goals at first you then say that you want a purposeful and rewarding life and that is a dream in general .

So make a wish list about the all things you want to do , and start from there it may not turn well and there is a great possibility that some of those wishes won`t come true , but there will be a exciting experience in every turn in the path of your life .

I suggest this to a lot of people with the same problem. You need to discover what you want and to do that you need to know yourself, you values/principles. The best thing that I have (and many others) is did the seven habits of highly successful people. Its a book. It is not easy or quick, but you will learn that nothing worth while is. It took me 8 months to do it. 6months to do the first 3 chapters! But wow. I came out with a very clear sense of direction and who I was. If you are going to trust someone you have never met… Trust me on this one! Good luck
