I just finished chemo last January and have been living with my parents before during and since. I am thankful for that but my life has pretty much been on hold during this time. I have been looking to move out and I really want to. I will be carrying a pretty substantial debt, but I have the equivalent of 6 months rent saved up right now. The job I have now is not going to help me pay the rent, but will cover my other living expenses and I can chip away at my debt. I will need to find a new job over the course of 4 or 6 months, or pick up a part-time job along the way to earn an extra $1000 a month so I can pay my rent for the 2nd half of the year. Otherwise my debt will start growing very quickly.

Although I know the economy is in bad shape, and this could be stressful, I am not enjoying my life living with my parents, and many of my friends are all for me getting out on my own.

Do you think this is doable? Should I go for it? My health has fully returned and I can afford deposit + rent for about 5 months. I just don’t want to subject myself to a ton of pressure and wear myself down. On the other hand, who knows where my health will be in a year or two, I could have a recurrence. I faced down a life threatening disease last year, Do I grab life by the horns, or play it safe?

Dont feel that you need to say what you think I want to hear. This is a tough decision and I have been debating this since the summer. It is a tough decision. Right now thought it is "off-season" for renting and I found a great place for a good deal..

-If you are wondering why I don’t find a job first before moving out, well I tried for a while, but it is impossible to focus or concentrate here, its loud and annoying and kind of a crazy house- well just imagine…
Then again with layoffs happening all over, and the economy possibly headed toward another Great Depression this might be a bad mistake.

thanks much

Oh I should add, if it is a factor, that my credit is well above 700

You, more than many or most of us here, realize how precious life is - so my heartfelt advice is for you to go for it. Why should you spend any time in a "crazy house" where you cannot enjoy your life? You can play it safe & be completely miserable but for what? Moving out could be stressful you say….so you have stress either way. At least you will have your own choices, solitude & life on your own. Most people have no where near six months saved up for rent when they move into a place, so you may want to consider yourself in a stable situation. That, in addition to your credit score, should give you little reason to be concerned. If, heaven forbid, your health should decline there are ways & means available to deal with that at the time. Keep a positive mental attitude, which will be easier at your new place and healing will flow through your body from the soles of your feet to the top of your head. I wish you all the blessings of heaven & earth!

I’ve heard that there is a law that says your boss does not have to give a reason for firing you, but this doesn’t seem like it should be allowed. Don’t employees have the right to know? Please help.
I live in California and I work for the city of Anaheim.

If your employment is "at will" then, no, they don’t have to give you a reason, just as you would not have to give them a reason if you quit. California (where I a) is an "at-will" state, meaning that all employers in California are "at-will". Check the laws in your state and I bet you’ll find it the same there too.

I know most technical writers work on contract, and I originally thought most of them worked from home, but the jobs I have seen advertised have the writer work at a workplace location. Most of the time you hear that technical writers work from home- what percentage actually do work from home most of the time? How do they find work? How did they find work before the internet? (For example, people have been writing manuals since before there was an internet. So, there must be additional ways technical writers find work aside from online.)

I don’t know about percentages, but yes, a lot of technical writers work from home. They find work (other than the internet) by subscribing to technical journals and magazines, networking with people in the industry (perhaps contacts from a former job outside the home), subscribing to industry forums and writing forums, perusing the want ads in newspapers, craigslist and other local classified sections, bidding for government and/or military contracts, and by asking current contractors for references to other contacts.

I have been married for 12 years. Have 3 kids. My wife is a stay at home mom. What I have found over the past 4 to 5 years is that she can not be counted on during hard times. When ever things are going bad she breaks down or turns negative. There are lots of things I would write here to try and explain but end the end I just want some one who has my back every once in a while. We are both good people living middle class lives. I kind of think that she has been living a pretty easy life style for so long she has gotten spolied to the point of no return. At home we do have a good life but I still have to go out in a very tough world and earn the mony to support that. In that world no one gives a dame about you and sometime things get hard and you need someone lean on for a minuite or two. Anyone else have this issue or one like it. What do you do?

I hear ya.. I found someone to be supportive of me.

I just started a work at home website, the link is in my profile, and I need some ideas for free promotion. Aside from Craigslist what are some other ideas

Building links by submitting your links through link directory submissions would work well. You can do this on you own, but it will take a lot of time.
If you need help, you can always find an affordable SEO service provider that will take care of your website promotion just as good as the most expensive companies but for a reasonably low rate.

Two times I called in sick, had to go to the hospital. I gave my boss proof of being at the doctors and hospital. They let me go. Can an employer do this? I have good reason to have missed work w/ my cronic pains and trying to rule out MS or what ever it may be. I also had gave my boss proof of papers from the doctor and hospital. They are so dumb. I am most positive you can’t fire someone if you r sick. Thank you for your help.

100% legal that they can fire you for that. doctors note or not, if you are not capable of working when they need you they will find someone else who can and will.
